Junior Ranger Walk

November 3, 2018 @ 9:30 am – 11:30 am
Theodore Roosevelt Island Footbridge
Theodore Roosevelt Island
Washington, DC

We invite you and your kiddos to come along with us as we learn about the National Park in our backyard—The George Washington Memorial Parkway.

There are two great ways to join in on the fun: a walk hosted by WalkArlington and a bike ride hosted by Kidical Mass and BikeArlington. National Parks Service Rangers will join both groups and share family-friendly information and neat activities. At the end of the event, everyone gets sworn in as Junior Rangers!

Both the walk and bike ride are geared towards families and kids, so the pace will be casual and slow. Everyone is welcome.

When you sign up, please choose whether you will be joining us for the walk or the bike ride. Note: the starting locations are different, but both events will finish at Theodore Roosevelt Island for a joint Junior Ranger ceremony.

Junior Ranger Walk

The walking group will meet at Theodore Roosevelt Island and explore the network of hiking trails, presidential monument, and rich history of the Island. The walk will be guided by a National Park Ranger, and there will be plenty to learn about, activities to engage with, and wildlife to spot along this lesser-know gem of the George Washington Memorial Parkway.

Route length: 2-2.5 miles on pedestrian-only unpaved trails. The walk should last roughly 90 minutes with stops—brings snacks and water.

Transportation & Parking: Theodore Roosevelt Island is accessible from the Rosslyn Metro (BL, OR, SV liens) via a short 15-minute walk along the Mount Vernon Trail. Street parking is also available in Rosslyn. Limited onsite parking.
