Sketch Walk Arlington @ Central Library
Sep 7 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Sketch Walk Arlington @ Central Library

Come to create and hone your powers of observation while exploring Arlington during this open sketch session in Virginia Square. Experts from Sketching the District will start the walk with an introduction to sketching followed by an exploration of Virginia Square led by WalkArlington that includes multiple stops for drawing.

Urban sketching is the act of drawing and documenting the world around you, whether that is your local neighborhood, museum, park, or cityscape. Sketching facilitates a deep connection to your surroundings and an appreciation of the beauty in everything.

Afterwards, we will gather for a casual lunch. All are welcome.

What to Bring

Bring your sketching materials or a notebook and pencil, and cash/credit card if you plan on joining for lunch.

Where to Meet

We will meet outside of the N Quincy St entrance to Central Library. Look for the orange umbrella! We will walk to 3 locations in total.

Do I Need to Have Drawing Experience?

Absolutely not! We welcome all skill levels and simply want to encourage you to experience Arlington in a new way.

This walk is co-hosted by WalkArlington and Sketching the District.

PARK(ing) Day 2019: Bike or Walk to Relaxation Station @ On-street parking spaces near Cava
Sep 20 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
PARK(ing) Day 2019: Bike or Walk to Relaxation Station @ On-street parking spaces near Cava | Arlington | Virginia | United States

Bike or Walk to Relaxation Station! Relax and enjoy public space with us on Friday, September 20 in Rosslyn. BikeArlington and WalkArlington will create an oasis in the urban space complete with greenery, seating, cucumber water, and adult coloring books. We’ll be giving away Capital Bikeshare coupons, water bottles, and temporary tattoos.

From the County website on PARK(ing) Day:

PARK(ing) Day is an annual international event where the public collaborates to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into small parks to elicit a reconsideration of the designation of public space. This global project evolved out of the implementation of a local project in San Francisco in 2005. The art and design studio, Rebar, transformed a parking spot into a temporary park to draw attention to a lack of open space. Out of this initial local project evolved the now global PARK(ing) Day event, which commences every third Friday of September.

Arlington PARK(ing) Day

Events like PARK(ing) Day enrich our community life by creating an inviting streetscape and by promoting activities that allow for social exchange, fun, creativity and critical thinking. PARK(ing) Day in particular can furthermore promote a rethinking of the usage of the public-right-of-way and may motivate the public to more actively participate in the civic processes which shape our urban environment.
