Long summer days are over and so is Daylight Savings Time. That means we get an extra hour of sleep but it gets darker earlier. But don’t worry, we have you covered with our annual Lighten Up Arlington event! Come by one of our pop-ups to get some lights and reflective gear for you as you walk (or bike) this season.
Pop-Up Days & Times:
- Monday, November 4 @ W&OD Trail & Columbia Pike 4:30-6:30pm
- Wednesday, November 6 @ Custis Trail in Rosslyn 4:30-6:30pm
- Tuesday, November 12 @ Weenie Beenie 7:00am-8:30am
- Thursday, November 14 @ Crystal City Water Park 7:00am-8:30am
Want to volunteer at this event? Sign up here for a shift for Lighten Up Arlington.
The PAC advises the County Board and the County Manager on the implementation of the pedestrian element of the Master Transportation Plan and other matters the committee deems important to advocate for the needs of pedestrians in Arlington.
The committee is made up of volunteers who keep the County focused on making Arlington a better place to walk — from the high-rise canyons of Rosslyn, Ballston, and Crystal City to the leafy residential areas of north, south, and west Arlington.
Meetings are held every second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. Members of the public are invited to join any meeting.

Join BikeArlington and WalkArlington for our signature Winter Accessory Workshop. Participants will learn how to make their very own winter walk or bike accessory, from a warm ear cover to a full-head balaclava.
NEW this year: We will also be holding a donation drive for Arlington Street People’s Assistance Network (A-SPAN) to help provide cold-weather accessories for Arlington’s most vulnerable individuals. Participants are encouraged to bring donations or make an additional cold weather accessory to donate.
Current ASPAN Adult Client Needs:
- new socks
- new underwear
- gloves
- scarves
- beanies
- long-johns
- blankets
There will also be some dessert treats to share while we trade tips and secrets about walking and biking in winter.
All skill levels are welcome and all materials needed will be provided. The event is free, but RSVPs are requested.
