Balaclavas & Baklava Winter Accessory-Making Workshop @ The Shop at Central Library
Dec 13 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Join WalkArlington, BikeArlington, and Arlington Public Library for Balaclavas & Baklava, a fun winter accessory-making workshop. Sewing experts from the library and BikeArlington teams will teach you to make your own balaclava (a warm full-head covering similar to a ski mask) or a pair of ear warmers to help you feel comfortable walking and biking all winter long. You will have the option to use a sewing machine or sew by hand. All skill levels are welcome and all materials needed will be provided.

There will also be some dessert treats (including delicious baklava) and warm beverages to share while we trade tips and secrets about walking and biking in winter.

The event is free, but RSVPs are requested. Space is limited so don’t delay signing up!

Martin Luther King Jr. Day W&OD Trail Cleanup @ Washington & Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Trail
Jan 16 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

On the morning of Monday, January 16, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, join us in Arlington, Virginia, to clean up litter and debris on the Washington & Old Dominion Trail, a beautiful trail that’s enjoyed by cyclists and walkers alike.

As Dr. King once said, “Everybody can be great because everybody can serve.” Let’s honor his wish by caring for the trail and making it an even nicer place for others to bike and walk! All are welcome.

What We’ll Do

We’ll start on the Washington & Old Dominion Trail where it intersects with Columbia Pike. Look for the Bike/WalkArlington tent! We’ll work our way down the W&OD toward South George Mason Drive.

We’ll focus on picking up the litter and trash that gathers in the vegetation near the side of the trail. Refreshments and some fun giveaways will be provided as a thank-you to all who come out for the cleanup.

Spread the word and invite your friends to join us!

This event is free, but registration is required. The cleanup will be held rain or shine. If there is severe weather, we will cancel this event.

What to Bring

• Gloves
• Trash Pickers or Grabbers
• Sun protection
Trash bags will be available onsite. A limited supply of gloves, trash pickers, and grabbers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

What to Wear

Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. The area has a lot of vegetation, so pants are recommended.
