Virtual Book Club: Take “A Walk in the Woods” with us! @ Online
Jun 4 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

If the stay-at-home order has significantly upped your reading time, consider joining us for our new virtual book club. We’ll be reading Bill Bryson’s funny and endearing memoir of his thru-hike on the Appalachian Trail, “A Walk in the Woods.” Now more than ever, many of us would enjoy cozying up with a familiar good book that makes us laugh!

To participate, simply order a copy of the book online if you don’t already have one and register here on Eventbrite. Registration opens on Tuesday, April 21.

As the date of the online event gets closer, you’ll receive information on how to participate.

This is an informal opportunity to connect with other Arlington, Va., residents who like reading and walking/hiking.

If you’re feeling festive, make yourself a special appetizer and enjoy a favorite drink while we chat!

Juneteenth Black Heritage Walk
Jun 19 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am

WalkArlington in partnership with Columbia Pike Partnership and the Black Heritage Museum of Arlington presents Juneteenth Black Heritage Walk.

Discover Black history in Arlington on a walk to honor Juneteenth led by Craig Syphax, a board member and former president of the Black Heritage Museum of Arlington and a member of the well-known Syphax family.
This 1 hour and 30-minute walk will take place along the Pike and will include a guided walk with stops at St. John’s Baptist Church, Freedman’s Village Bridge, and more. Along the route, Craig will discuss the history of some of these significant sites, in addition to his family’s deep-rooted history in and around Arlington. The walk will end at Pike Park to enjoy musician Rick Franklin performing roots music at the farmers market.

NEED TO KNOW

We’ll meet outside near the back of the church to avoid blocking the sidewalk. So, when you arrive, please head to the corner near the chuch’s front entrance, Columbia Pike & S. Scott St., and look for us there.
