Celebrate Trails Day: Cleanup on the W&OD Trail @ Washington & Old Dominion Trail Trailhead (Mile 1.5) at Columbia Pike
Apr 23 @ 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

Join WalkArlington and BikeArlington on Celebrate Trails Day Saturday, April 13 to clean up on one of our favorite trails in Arlington—the Washington & Old Dominion Trail (W&OD Trail).

We’ll focus on picking up the litter and trash that gathers in the vegetation near the side of the trail. Refreshments, water, and some fun giveaways will be provided as a thank-you to all who come out for the cleanup.

Spread the word and invite your friends to celebrate trails using #CelebrateTrails on social media.

WHAT TO KNOW

This event is free, but registration is required. This event will be held rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, we will reschedule for a future date.

Bring your own tools:
• Gloves
• Trash Pickers or Grabbers
• Sun protection

Trash bags will be available onsite. A limited supply of gloves, trash pickers, and grabbers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. The area has a lot of vegetation, so pants are recommended.

GETTING THERE

The cleanup will begin and end on the W&OD Trail at Mile 1.5, which is the trailhead just at Columbia Pike. We’ll work our way half a mile up the trail toward S. George Mason Drive. This location is served by transit, multi-use trails, and Capital Bikeshare. Use Car Free Near Me to check out your transportation options.

Contact WalkArlington at info@walkarlington.com with any questions.

Walk & Learn: Street Design with a Transportation Engineer @ Rosslyn
May 25 @ 5:30 pm – 6:45 pm

WalkArlington presents a summer series of walk and learn opportunities to engage with some of Arlington’s experts and cool people.

On this walk, Dan Nabors, transportation engineer, will demonstrate how planning and engineering influence your everyday experience and enjoyment of sidewalks, land use, and street connectivity.

Dan Nabors is the Assistant Bureau Chief for Arlington County’s Transportation Engineering and Operations Bureau and a dynamic speaker who explains complex topics simply and clearly (we’ve seen him in action before!) so come ready to have fun and learn. He’ll be joined by staff from the Rosslyn Business Improvement District (BID), who have collaborated with him on several recent projects.

NEED TO KNOW

Free cold drinks will be provided at the start of the walk courtesy of WalkArlington.

MEET US THERE

Look for our group near the Rosslyn Metro exit on Central Place Plaza. We’ll be near the McDonald’s and the Rosslyn Farmers Market.

Juneteenth Black Heritage Walk
Jun 19 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am

WalkArlington in partnership with Columbia Pike Partnership and the Black Heritage Museum of Arlington presents Juneteenth Black Heritage Walk.

Discover Black history in Arlington on a walk to honor Juneteenth led by Craig Syphax, a board member and former president of the Black Heritage Museum of Arlington and a member of the well-known Syphax family.
This 1 hour and 30-minute walk will take place along the Pike and will include a guided walk with stops at St. John’s Baptist Church, Freedman’s Village Bridge, and more. Along the route, Craig will discuss the history of some of these significant sites, in addition to his family’s deep-rooted history in and around Arlington. The walk will end at Pike Park to enjoy musician Rick Franklin performing roots music at the farmers market.

NEED TO KNOW

We’ll meet outside near the back of the church to avoid blocking the sidewalk. So, when you arrive, please head to the corner near the chuch’s front entrance, Columbia Pike & S. Scott St., and look for us there.
